Rural Nurture Initiative is calling passionate Nigerians to join a nationwide movement in climate-smart agriculture, health, and community development.
Are you a young Nigerian with a heart for service and a passion for community development? Here is your chance to turn that passion into meaningful action. The Rural Nurture Initiative (RNI) — a leading Nigerian social impact organisation — has opened its 2026 nationwide volunteer recruitment across all 36 states and the FCT.
This is not just another volunteer listing. RNI is an established, credible non-governmental organisation with a track record of grassroots transformation in agriculture, health, water access, and economic empowerment across rural Nigeria and Africa. Volunteering with them places you at the heart of real, lasting change.
“We believe that rural communities aren’t just beneficiaries of development — they are the architects shaping it.” — Rural Nurture Initiative
Rural Nurture Initiative (RNI) is a youth-led, Ibadan-based non-governmental organisation working to facilitate inclusive and sustainable rural development across Nigeria and Africa. RNI drives sustainable change through grassroots empowerment, evidence-based research, and inclusive policy advocacy, working hand-in-hand with communities to empower people, build local capacity, and nurture resilient rural ecosystems.
Their work spans agriculture, health, education, clean water, and social welfare for the rural poor in Nigeria and across Africa, with a vision of an Africa where rurality doesn’t equate to poverty and rural dwellers have adequate access to the basic facilities that make for sustainable living and fulfilled potentials.
As a volunteer with RNI, you will be deployed to support one or more of the organization’s flagship program areas. Here is a closer look at each:
Promote food security by supporting sustainable farming practices and agricultural empowerment in rural communities.
Drive economic inclusion by supporting rural women, youth, and farmers with skills, resources, and resilience-building programs.
Help expand access to quality healthcare and safe drinking water for vulnerable rural communities across Nigeria.
RNI welcomes applicants from all states in Nigeria. If you meet the following criteria, this opportunity is for you:
Volunteering with RNI goes beyond giving back — it is a professional and personal growth opportunity that equips you for a career in development work:
Nigeria’s rural communities face some of the most acute development challenges on the continent — from food insecurity and limited healthcare to inadequate water access and low economic inclusion. RNI has spent years building trust and systems within these communities, meaning your volunteer work will be channelled into programs that are already working.
RNI’s approach prepares practitioners with practical tools, contextual understanding, and adaptive approaches to successfully implement projects in rural communities — equipping volunteers with cultural competence, participatory implementation skills, and community engagement capabilities.
Past volunteers have described the experience as transformative — not just for the communities they served, but for their own personal and professional development. Volunteers with RNI have noted that seeing the direct impact on individuals and families creates a deep sense of purpose, and that working alongside rural communities is as much about learning and growing as it is about giving.
This is a volunteer role. It offers non-monetary benefits, including experience, exposure, networking, and the opportunity to make a real social impact in rural Nigeria.
